Pedal to the Metal: UnionBank’s 38th Anniversary

UnionBank celebrated its 38th anniversary, dubbed as ‘Pedal to the Metal’ with a refreshed and refueled drive to bring its people at the center of the organization.

It’s been four years since the Bank started its digital transformation, and the aspiration to fully embrace digitization in the organization has been fulfilled with numerous awards and recognition locally and abroad along the way.

The event started with the celebration of the milestones of UnionBankers through the annual Service Awards. Around 400 UnionBankers received recognition for their loyalty and service to the company. Mr. Teodolfo Simbre, the sole 35-year Service Awardee, was acknowledged in the event.

The celebration also became an avenue to recognize the movers and shakers for 2019 through Heroes and Champions. Some of the key teams and projects that received a distinction were: UBXCELLERATOR, Watchtower, Singapore Fintech Festival, Digital RM (Polaris), and Digital RM (MAX) for the President’s Award, while Financial Supply Chain, Digital Account Opening, The Portal, and i2i for the Chairman’s Award.

Aside from the Bank anniversary, Pedal to the Metal also celebrated the 100 years of Aboitiz Corporation through the Aboitiz Team Awards, which recognizes noteworthy and remarkable projects that fulfilled the inspired purpose and brand promise Aboitiz, “to drive change for a better world by advancing business and communities.” Onsite Payroll Card Releasing for JP Morgan Chase & Co., Agile Transformation Team, and Project i2i received the Integrity, Teamwork, and Innovation awards, respectively.

UnionBankers showed that they are not just achievers in their respective roles in the organization but also multi-faceted performers. The rest of the night became a feast for the eyes and ears with performances from UBP Dance Crew, The Ark Ambassadors, Retail Banking Center, and Bandwidth.

With almost four decades of experience in banking, UnionBank proved to be a pioneer for many firsts when it comes to digital banking. The Bank that was once known as the ‘banking’s best-kept secret’ had come forward four years ago when we started our digital transformation, and we are ready to go farther, on full-throttle, and pedal to the metal in 2020 onwards.
