Union Bank of the Philippines, in collaboration with Pasig City Science High School, successfully hosted Day 1 of the Selyado on Wheels: School Edition, focusing on the inclusivity of a #PrivaSafe and #CyberSure community in schools. The event was tailored for the Grade 10 students at Pasig City Science High School, who found it relevant and timely since data privacy, data management, and the overall use of technology are regularly tackled in their ICT subjects.
The symposium featured two distinguished speakers who delved into topics aligned with the event’s theme, “Fostering A Privacy-Enabled Secure Ecosystem.” Atty. Danniel Amorin, Compliance Officer for Privacy and Team Leader of the Legal and Compliance Department of Aboitiz Land, shared invaluable insights on data privacy in social media. Atty. Danniel emphasized to the young audience that “you don’t have to be of legal age to exercise your right to data privacy”. He equipped them with practical strategies to safeguard their personal information and how to take appropriate action when needed.
Following Atty. Danniel, Mr. Johann Paolo Abog, a DevSecOps engineer, Security Assurance Lead, and Project Manager at Union Bank of the Philippines, enlightened the attendees about “Staying Safe Online: Cybersecurity Fundamentals.” Mr. Abog provided them with tips on how to identify phishing and scams, and how to secure their accounts and sensitive data against cyber threats.
The program concluded with closing remarks by Mr. Joey Rufo, UnionBank’s Chief Data Privacy Officer, who highlighted that “ang kabataang safe at secure online ang pag-asa ng bayan”. He then expressed gratitude to Pasig City Science High School for their active participation in the event and presented a certificate of appreciation to the school in recognition of their contributions.
Afterwards, the students were treated to a selection of snacks and beverages. An engaging escape room game was also organized, allowing groups of 5-10 members to put their newly learned knowledge to the test as the activity gamified the concepts learned during the symposium.
Adding to the excitement, a CyberSure-themed photobooth was set up outside the auditorium, offering students an opportunity to capture memorable moments and celebrate the event’s success.
The Selyado on Wheels: School Edition plays a vital role in cultivating a privacy-conscious and cyber-resilient community especially amongst the youth. Through this, Union Bank of the Philippines actively promotes a secure digital landscape and continues to empower the next generation to navigate it responsibly.
