On July 22, 2023, volunteers from UnionBank embarked on a journey to Datu Salumay, a remote and foggy part of Marilog, Davao, located on the outskirts of Davao City and bordering Bukidnon Province.
The UnionBank volunteers commenced their journey around 10:15 a.m., arriving at their destination without incident, thanks to earnest prayers for a safe travel. Even though Datu Salumay is a far-flung and challenging place to reach, this did not deter the volunteers’ passion to help and pay their blessings forward.
Just in time for the start of classes the following month, the Bank had prepared school bags and school supplies for the children that would be helpful as they conduct face-to-face classes. The initiative not only emphasized UnionBank’s commitment to education but also highlighted the importance of providing essential tools to underprivileged students to support their educational journey.
Parents of the children, overwhelmed with gratitude, expressed their appreciation for UnionBank. They conveyed their feelings by saying, “Sa taga UnionBank, salamat gayud sa inyong pag-abot unya kami makadawat niining regalo. Gamiton namo gyud sa pag-eskwela sa amoang mga anak.”
In total, this outreach event reached out to 150 individuals, including both children and their parents. UnionBank’s commitment to the community shone brightly through this initiative, which is part of the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, known as “GoBeyond Communities.”
It not only provided essential school supplies to these children but also strengthened the bond between UnionBank and the communities they serve. It serves as a reminder that corporate social responsibility goes beyond just business; it’s about enriching the lives of those in need and making a positive impact on the world around us. The smiles and excitement of the children in Datu Salumay are a testament to the power of such initiatives.
