August 8, 2022 – Union Bank of the Philippines’ UBPXcellerator Program welcomed one hundred thirty (130) future Cloud experts to its Cloud Cadetship Program during its launch last August 8, 2022.
The program supports the Bank’s Tech Up Pilipinas advocacy by empowering and enabling its workforce and our fellow Filipinos with digital skills and capabilities.
UBP’s Tech Talker and TechHub podcast host, Jam Salvador, hosted the said event. The cadets got a dose of inspiration from UBP Chief Information Officer, IT Services Group, and Operations and Shared Services Group Head, Dennis Omila, who gave his opening remarks while highlighting the importance of “doing and learning everything with a deeper purpose.” This statement is a nod to the mission of UBP Xcellerator program of advocating Social Sustainability through digital capability building to co-create innovations for a better world.
UBP’s Infrastructure and Service Management Head, Ryan Acosta and the Head of Infrastructure Management, ITSG, Melo Ilunio shared their learnings from working in the Bank’s Cloud systems and its Cloud Transformation Journey before wishing the cadets good luck.
Global Partners, Cutting-edge Learning
UnionBank’s trusted partners from AWS (Amazon Web Services) and Microsoft also gave the cadets more information on the AWS Cloud Fluency Program as well as the “Microsoft Cloud Skills Challenge” that they will undergo in the following weeks.
AWS and Microsoft are set to provide a deeper understanding and hands-on learning for the Cadets.
#LetsGetCloud
UBP Xcellerator received 1,000+ applications and only 130 got accepted as #CloudAndProud Cadets composed mostly of fresh Graduates from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
The Bank’s Technology Capability Lead, Cathy Santiago was also present and gave the cadets with a rundown of the 3-week program, and a preview of the “Cloud Ideathon Challenge” that the cadets would have to complete.
The Cloud Cadetship Program aims to build a pool of capable talents in terms of Cloud Technology. After the 3-week Program, UnionBank is hopeful of calling more people to acknowledge the use and benefits of the Cloud.
