UnionBank reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation with the launch of Eco-Awareness Week: Small Actions, Big Impact for a Greener Future on November 18, 2024. The week-long initiative aimed to engage employees and promote sustainability anchored on the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals of the bank.
Hosted by Employer Branding and Communications Manager Shangy Montecillo and OSHD Safety Officer Mike Minuluan, the kickoff began with a recorded opening message from UnionBank’s Chief Risk Officer, Erwin Wiriadi, inspiring attendees to embrace environmentally sound practices. Learning and Development Manager Japh Luistro then provided an overview of the week’s exciting activities, which include a Sustainable Parol-Making Contest, a Green Innovation Ideation Contest.
These activities encourage employees to deepen their understanding of sustainability and contribute, not only to initiatives that protect the environment, but also to share ideas that would co-create innovations for a better world.
Adding an interactive touch, CSR & Sustainability Head Angela Justo engaged the audience with sustainability-themed trivia, awarding eco-friendly prizes to participants who answered correctly. The excitement continued with an awarding ceremony, facilitated by OSHD Officer, Al Pormocille, recognizing UnionBankers’ outstanding contributions to environmental initiatives. OSHD Head Henry Perez and Angela Justo presented awards for the following categories:
E-waste Zero Project Top Contributors
Successful Implementation of Environmental Waste Management Processes in UBP Branches
Best GoBeyond Communities (GBC) Environmental Project
Exo Awareness Week Bazaar
A highlight of the event was a presentation by Rianne Reyes, a LEAD Management Trainee under the Product Owner Track, who shared her team’s impactful GBC project in Bagac, Bataan. The initiative involves planting mangroves, cleaning coastlines, and protecting local sea turtles by studying their behaviors and implementing safety measures to support their conservation.
UnionBank’s Eco-Awareness Week highlights the Bank’s dedication to integrating sustainability into its corporate culture. As UnionBank continues to advance banking technology through innovation, its employees also strive to care for neighboring communities through initiatives led by its flagship CSR program, GoBeyond Communities. This collective effort results in a lasting, positive impact on both society and the environment.
