SAVING LIVES: UnionBank and Philippine Red Cross Team Up for Blood Drive

By: Martina Lucero

UnionBank Plaza and UnionBank Square were bustling with activity last April 23 and April 25 as UnionBank, along with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), organized a blood donation drive as part of Safety Week. This joint effort aimed to support both the community and employee well-being.

Aside from being an effective way to help those in need, blood donation provides various health benefits, including lowered risks of cancer and cardiovascular diseases, improved organ function, and decreased stress levels. However, it’s also important that blood donors are in good physical health to undergo the process safely.

To ensure eligibility, participants underwent a comprehensive health assessment administered by on-site medical professionals, with PRC personnel closely supervising the donation procedure to guarantee donor well-being. Following the donation, donors were provided with pastries and beverages as a means to restore their energy levels and as a gesture of appreciation. They also received participation credits in GoBeyond Communities, the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

A notable aspect of this initiative was the provision made for UnionBankers in need. For every ten units of blood donated by UnionBank employees, PRC earmarked one unit for any UnionBanker who might need it in the future—a commendable example of forward-thinking altruism.

Truly, UnionBank’s collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross for the blood donation drive exemplifies its commitment to corporate social responsibility and employee welfare. By bringing the blood drive directly to its employees, UnionBank has provided them with a tangible opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.

Through this, the bank not only saves lives but also fosters a culture of compassion and solidarity within the community.
