UnionBank Volunteers Transform Alua Elementary School with New Writing Chairs and Supplies

By: Neil Patrick G. Nepomuceno

On July 20, 49 UnionBank volunteers from General Services, Occupational Safety and Health Division, and other units gathered to donate 50 writing chairs with trays and over 50 notebooks and pens at Alua Elementary School in Nueva Ecija.

The help did not end there, as UnionBank volunteers also helped maintain the school grounds by cutting overgrown grass. Members of the school faculty were delighted, expressing their gratitude to all UnionBank volunteers in a short program.

This was followed by the turnover ceremony wherein the volunteers gave their donations to the students of Alua Elementary School. The GBC Project Organizer, Loreta Mendoza, shared her experience and why she chose AES to become a beneficiary.

“We saw the dismal state of the very old and dilapidated writing chairs of AES. Worn by age, and yet due to budget constraints of DepEd and the LGU, they keep and repeatedly repair them so that the students can have chairs to use when the school opens this month.”

“We are happy and humbled to be instruments of UnionBank to be able to provide at least the Grade 5 students of AES with new writing chairs for this school year,” she ended.

UnionBankers stand firm with their mission to improve the lives of their customers and remote communities that are in need. With more and more employees proposing outreach programs and engaging in volunteerism, there is a bright future for this fun, engaging, and rewarding opportunity to help others, one community at a time.
