UnionBank Volunteers Hold “Todo Toda ang Pasko”: A Gesture of Support for Tricycle Drivers and Operators

Last December 2, 2023, UnionBank volunteers from the Cavite Branches initiated a GoBeyond Communities titled, Todo Toda ang Pasko Kasama ang Unionbank,” aimed at supporting the members of the Binakayan Congbalay Legaspi Pulborista Tricycle Operators and Driver’s Association (BCLPTODA). This project was inspired by the organization’s policy requiring tricycle drivers to wear shoes or sandals while on duty, presenting them as well-groomed individuals.

Understanding the challenges they faced with the new footwear policy, the UnionBank volunteers decided to step in and offer support.

The initiative involved the donation of essential items to enhance the drivers’ morale and confidence. Each member received a personalized T-shirt bearing their name and the BCLPTODA logo, to be worn every Monday, along with three pairs of socks. The donation aimed not only to meet their practical needs but also to instill pride and dignity in their work.

There was no formal ceremony during the initiative. Instead, UnionBank volunteers visited the tricycle drivers’ waiting area and distributed the shirts and socks directly. The items were packaged for easy distribution.

The drivers recognized the positive impact these donations had on their appearance and self-esteem, expressing gratitude for the support. They also conveyed their relief from the financial strain of buying socks. “Malaking tulong ito sa amin, hindi na kami mamomroblema sa pagbili ng medyas,” one of the drivers said.

Reflecting on the initiative’s success, the volunteers found joy and fulfillment in aiding the drivers, reminding them of the significance of paying it forward.
