Last November 18, 2023, UnionBank volunteers from the Iloilo Iznart Branch, Iloilo General Luna Branch, and Housing Loan Department visited the Villavert-Jimenez Memorial Elementary School community to help them address a critical issue facing the school community: access to clean water. They successfully provided quality, clean, and safe water for the school’s students, teachers, and parents through their donated materials and equipment.
The beneficiary school was chosen due to the urgent need for improved water access. Water scarcity had always posed significant challenges for both students and faculty, so the initiative aimed to alleviate the daily struggles caused by this.
The donation involved the installation of two water pump jets and the provision of materials for a sustainable water supply system. A cleanup drive was also conducted on the school premises, creating a clean and conducive learning environment for the students.
The successful completion of the water supply system brought tangible relief to the community. With the installation of the new system, they welcomed an end to water scarcity by repeatedly exclaiming, “Sag-ub no more,” as the children won’t have to fetch water from the river ever again.
During the turnover ceremony, UnionBankers received appreciation messages from the barangay officials. The School Principal also presented a token of appreciation to them, highlighting the collaborative effort and mutual appreciation for community welfare.
Through initiatives like this, UnionBank continues to uphold its corporate social responsibility, ensuring access to fundamental resources for all individuals to thrive and succeed.
