GoBeyond Stories

Last March 23, 2024, UnionBank volunteers from the Visayas Region Office and Tagbilaran Branch organized a GoBeyond Communities (GBC) initiative focused on helping kids at Taug Primary School in Bohol, as the community was still recovering from the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Odette over two years ago.
The volunteers aimed to make a difference for the youngest students, particularly those in kindergarten through second grade. These children come from families struggling with poverty, relying on farming and fishing for their livelihoods.
Meaningful contributions were made by donating essential items and sharing valuable lessons with the children. They provided 2 printers, school supplies, T-shirts, slippers, and umbrellas, addressing the children’s basic school necessities. The kids were also treated to Jollibee meals, which, for many, marked their first experience with the kid-favorite fast-food chain.
They also spent time teaching the kids about saving money, inspiring them to aim for a better financial future despite their current tough situations. During a short program about financial literacy, the kids shared their own stories about saving money, like how they use homemade piggy banks. Even at a young age, they were ready to learn about managing money wisely.
The children’s reactions made the volunteers feel that their effort was worth it. The success of their initiative wasn’t just in the donations, but also in the time and attention they shared with the kids, teaching them and showing care.
Truly, this GBC initiative not only brought joy to the children but also cultivated a sense of support and hope within the school community of Taug, showcasing the power of collective goodwill.
