Doing More for the Communities: UnionBank Volunteers help Rebuild Sibonga Daycare

Imagine traveling 31 kilometers or more—a considerable distance by any standard. But the journey was nothing compared to the rewarding experiences awaiting us upon our arrival at our destination.
The condition of the Sibonga Daycare was disheartening due to the onslaught brought by Typhoon Odette. The place where these young learners used to study had been severely damaged.
UnionBank saw this opportunity to extend a helping hand to the children in Sibonga. Led by UnionBank Cebu North Drive Branch Manager, Diana Policarpio, 11 UnionBanker volunteers stepped up to help rebuild their classrooms and provide essential tools for their learning journey.
The donations included school supplies such as books, educational charts, a TV with downloaded educational content, electric fans to maintain a comfortable learning environment, medical kits for their health, and personalized bags with basic hygiene essentials.
These thoughtful donations aimed to enrich their studies and personal well-being. Driven by the values of Magis and Ubuntu, the volunteers worked in unison, as they delivered these gifts to the recipients.
Even the simple act of sharing a meal with the children brought joy both to them and to us. Witnessing their happiness was a fulfilling experience, leaving an indelible mark on the volunteers’ hearts. Children naturally light up when they receive surprises and gifts, their smiles radiant and enchanting.
