Both a team player and a born leader, UnionBank’s Data Analytics Auditor, John Jerick Fernandez, is a perfect fit for the crucial daily tasks in the Internal Audit Group.
With only six months of experience from his two previous jobs: an Associate Internal Auditor for a food manufacturing company and a Shared-Service delivery center of an Auditing firm, Jerick seized the opportunity to work as an Associate Auditor for UnionBank’s Data Analytics Team.
He thought that he lacked the experience, and felt that he would not be hired. It was probably destiny along, because his passion and exposure to computer-aided auditing techniques (CAATs) directed him to the path and expertise that he is currently pursuing – Audit and Data Science.
He was hired and after 3 months, he was regularized. In just eight months he passed the examination and interview for the first batch of UBP Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) Cadets and won 3rd place in their Capstone Project
Jerick admires the leaders and his co-workers, including UnionBank’s Deputy Chief Audit Executive Norman Gabriel and their Chief Audit Executive, Ms. Myrna Amahan. He believes that he wouldn’t stay this long without his teammates.
“With UBP, I learned to turn seemingly impossible ideas into reality. By putting lots of effort and perseverance – guided by our principles and of course, our leaders.” He ended.
Not only does Jerick excel at work, but he also gives back to the community by teaching the new generation. Currently, he is an Adviser for the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountancy, Region IV Council.
Jerick was also the first notable alumni by the College of Business Management and Accountancy by the Laguna State Polytechnic University – San Pablo City Campus. The university recognized their alumni who exhibited exemplary professional achievement and performance in their chosen career and remarkable contributions to the community and active participation in the promotion of the University.
With all the achievements in his career, Jerick also acknowledges the Glory of God, as he said, “be the best that you can with God’s Grace. Excellence in pursuing and doing your best with gifts and abilities that God provided us and giving our all for the Glory of God.”
From someone who used to job hop every three months to becoming a valuable asset to the Bank’s success, Jerick found his calling and proved that anyone could make significant strides to propel their career forward with faith, determination and the right set of skills.
