5 things that require ZERO talent
By: Neil Nepomuceno
Being skilled or talented doesn’t always guarantee your success. With that in mind, here are five things that you can do to help you improve and unleash your full potential.
1.) Self-Discipline
Self-discipline is the ability to stay-motivated, take action, and complete your tasks regardless of how you’re feeling, physically or emotionally. It is the will power to contribute to a project or complete the task at hand.
TIP: Find out what works for you! Allocate some time to develop new habits that will help you excel.
2.) Being coachable
Nobody wants to be that “obnoxious know-it-all in the workplace.” Sadly, because conversations are less intimate due to the work–from–home setup, some people lack the self-awareness to realize that they’ve become one.
TIP: Always remember to stay humble and be open to change, feedback, and various forms of criticisms to get better.
3.) Dress for success
TIP: Always make a great impression by looking your best. Keep everyone engaged by exhibiting a professional demeanor and wearing the appropriate outfit. (Smart Casual, Office Uniform, Plain colored shirt etc.)
4.) Set Bigger, Realistic Goals
Be open to doing more than your job description suggests. Once you exert more effort into focusing and delivering your best work, you may be surprised at how much you can maximize your 24 hours. Following your schedule is fine, but you can always look for new ways to learn and execute tasks efficiently and effectively to reach higher goals.
TIP: An extra hour or two spent just scrolling in social media is a lot of time that can be allocated to more productive things. For starters, you can remove social media apps from your phone and laptop or set your device to “focus mode”.
5.) Passion
Having a strong liking or desire to succeed will manifest in your work.
Passion is what separates the good from the best. If you ask all the successful people in their respective fields, almost all of them would tell you that they are passionate about their work.
TIP: For young professionals, identify what you love and work on pursuing a related career. On the other hand, if you have enough experience and feel burnout, remember why you started and continue to push through to succeed.
