UnionBank Volunteers Provide School Supplies to Biao Escuela Youth in Davao City

On May 4, 2024, UnionBank volunteers from the Davao Rizal Branch organized a GoBeyond Communities project called “Kabataan ay Tanging Yaman.” This initiative was rooted from their belief that both urban and remote communities should have equal access to economic and emotional support.

The project benefited elementary and high school students from Barangay Biao Escuela in Tugbok District, Davao City, a remote area dependent on agriculture. These children belong to hardworking families living below the poverty line, with parents who see them as future leaders.

The turnover ceremony began with a message of gratitude from Pastor Marven Germo of Heritage Baptist Church, who spoke about God’s blessings and the choice of UnionBank GBC to support the underprivileged families of Biao Escuela. Afterwards, the children shared their career aspirations and how they plan to contribute to society.

Each child received a durable and stylish school bag filled with grade-appropriate supplies. They were also encouraged by the volunteers to view education as essential for community development.

The children and their parents expressed heartfelt thanks to the GBC volunteers, who traveled nearly an hour to reach their community. Pastor Marven Germo also offered prayers for UnionBank’s GoBeyond Communities program, hoping it would continue to support less fortunate families in their community and beyond.

For the volunteers, the project was incredibly meaningful and successful, as it reflected the values of Ubuntu in action. They found joy in serving those in need, recognizing them as a future source of talent and growth for the banking industry and the nation.

Through this initiative, UnionBank reaffirmed its commitment to uplifting the lives of underserved communities and supporting sustainable growth.
