Volunteers from UnionBank’s South Luzon Region, in partnership with the Lipa City government, donated 16 wheelchairs to 14 barangays as part of the bank’s GoBeyond Communities project, which aims to help persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the area.
The day started early for the UnionBank volunteers, who traveled from their meetup place to Lipa City and then to various barangays to distribute the wheelchairs to the chosen beneficiaries.
One of the beneficiaries could not hold back their joy, saying, “Hindi ko po akalain na mabibigyan ako ng bagong wheelchair. Maraming salamat po sa mga tumulong sa akin”.
According to the GBC Project organizer, Maria Adorna, the experience was worth it despite experiencing heavy rains while delivering wheelchairs to the beneficiaries in Barangay Tangway and Pangao.
A testament to UnionBank’s greater goal of uplifting various communities and promoting a greener environment, the bank launched GoBeyond Communities program; an employee-led project centered in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and volunteerism.
