Last April 20, 2024, UnionBank volunteers extended a helping hand to over 65 senior citizens residing in Brgy. Luta Sur Malvar Batangas. Organized by Senior Ambassador Alfred Fañdino, the initiative involved UnionBankers from BCM and RBC. Their aim was to address the challenges faced by senior citizens due to poor eyesight.
Understanding the importance of clear vision in daily life, the volunteers wanted to ensure that the senior citizens received the care they needed. Through an outreach activity that lasted six hours, they distributed 70 pairs of corrective eyeglasses and conducted thorough eye check-ups using modern technology. Collaborating with the Integrated Philippine Association of Optometrists also ensured expert support throughout the eye examinations.
Beyond the tangible support provided, this initiative also brought about a sense of empowerment among the seniors. Clear vision meant more than just improved eyesight. It represented a newfound sense of independence and dignity despite their old age, enabling them to engage more fully in their daily lives.
The GoBeyond Communities (GBC) program, funded by the bank and driven by its passionate employees, aims to make a meaningful difference in the lives of underserved communities. By fostering collaboration and compassion, the Bank creates lasting change and empowers communities to thrive.
