Last March 23, 2024, in celebration of International Women’s Month, UnionBank of the Philippines partnered with AHA! Learning Center to host a GoBeyond Communities (GBC) initiative at the Better World Cubao HER (Health, Empowerment, and Recovery) Center. This initiative, drawing in 20 UnionBanker volunteers, aimed to empower women through education on vital subjects such as financial literacy and cybersecurity.
The event kicked off with a heartfelt opening message from Ms. Angela Justo, Head of UnionBank’s CSR & Sustainability, setting a tone of warmth and inclusivity. Afterwards, Carrie Megino and Japhet Luistro led sessions on financial literacy and cybersecurity. These were not just informative talks but interactive segments that encouraged the exchange of personal experiences and insights between the volunteers and the women participants.
This interactive approach was deepened through focused group discussions, where participants shared stories and lessons learned, fostering a sense of community and mutual empowerment.
To end the event, Jayton Zulueta of AHA! Learning Center delivered a closing message, emphasizing the critical importance of being vigilant against phishers and scammers, especially in today’s digital age.
Aside from the program, the volunteers also received a tour of the HER Center, which showcased the extensive support provided to the women’s community. The center is not just a place for health care; it also offers learning opportunities and livelihood spaces designed to support women’s empowerment and recovery.
Truly, this GBC initiative highlights the Bank’s dedication to supporting women’s empowerment, embodying the spirit of International Women’s Month and promoting its theme of “Inspiring Inclusion.”
