Empowering Agriculture: Spreading seeds of hope in Brgy. Coliat

In a remote corner of Ibaan, Batangas, UnionBank of the Philippines embarked on a fulfilling and joyous journey with the focus on supporting 12 farmers and their families cultivating 28 hectares of land primarily for corn in Barangay Coliat.
The dedicated UnionBank volunteers went through the lengthy terrain to deliver essential supplies. Upon arriving to Barangay Coliat, various seeds and fertilizers were handed over to the farmers, and the impact was evident in the genuine joy reflected on their faces.
The event’s organizer, Edna, Senior Branch Ambassador for the South Luzon Region, shared her experience: ‘We handed out seeds and fertilizer, and I will always remember the joy on their faces. The barangay officials organized a brief event for the UnionBankers and farmers, and UnionBank of the Philippines received a Certificate of Appreciation for our crucial assistance to the corn growers in Barangay Coliat.’
The 12 farmers of Coliat had been facing challenges in recent years, noticing a decline in their corn output. Recognizing the need for additional support, they sought help with fertilizer and corn seeds, which were beyond their means to afford. Despite being directed to the barangay captain’s office for assistance, their plea went unanswered due to budget constraints.
This impactful GBC project was proposed by the South Luzon Region (RSOO office), with Batangas serving as the branch of assignment. The collaborative effort of the SL team, led by Senior Branch Manager, Jeannet and Katherine Jones (RSOO office), Branch Manager, Jennifer (Sta. Rosa), Myra Lyn (Batangas), Michael Ross Espiritu (Cavite), Senior Sales Officer Mariejoy (Batangas), Khristel Clarisse Jocson (Cavite), and Sales Service Assistant, Aaron Gabion (Cavite), has played a pivotal role in making the project a reality.
