UnionBank launches Open Finance and Digital Services Center of Excellence

“Center of Excellence (COE) is important. We build better capabilities to ensure that everyone evolves as the business advances, so no one gets left behind,” this was the opening statement from UBP Chief Human Resource Officer Michelle Rubio during the launch of the Open Finance and Digital Services Center of Excellence that was held last June 27 on the 47th floor of UnionBank Plaza.

The hybrid event was attended by over 50 employees onsite and 382 employees from UnionBank, AEV, and its subsidiaries via Zoom.

Erika Dizon-Go, First Vice President and Fintech Business Group Head is also the COE lead. She provided a walkthrough of the open finance landscape and how different it is from open banking where we are now.

She shared actual products and services from UnionBank that usher this new era of banking.

It was also graced by Mr. Ivan Daniel Mortimer Schultz and Mr. Lowell Campbell of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), who drove a spontaneous Q&A with our on-site and virtual audience. IFC creates and supports markets that open opportunities for financial institutions in developing countries like the Philippines.

Chief Digital Channels Officer and Customer Experience Officer also closed the event with a future-forward outlook, “Open Finance means more choice, control, and connection of our customers to more financial services.”

The Open Finance and Digital Services Center of Excellence is optimistic that this move will elevate the bank’s digital service offerings and enable our customers to fully own and securely share their banking data.
