CORE VALUE UNLOCKED: MAGIS and UBUNTU
Story of Jasmin K. Panopio
Sales and Service Assistant-Dasmariñas Binondo Branch
Way back 2012, when I called over a client to accommodate her transaction, I noticed that she could not walk properly. As I could not see the lower portion of her body from my side of the counter area, I gently asked her, “What happened to you, Ma’am? Anong nangyari sa paa mo? Bakit hindi ka makalakad nang maayos?”
She let out a short chuckle and jokingly replied, “Hindi ko alam na biglang masisira slippers ko.” I thought her feet must have hurt and I did not want to see her struggling like that.
Then I remembered that I had my slippers in the office. I offered my slippers to the client and said, “Ma’am, I don’t think we have the same foot size, but these might help you even though they do not fit well.”
Surprised by my offer and looking slightly embarrassed, she timidly said yes as she slipped on the tsinelas and gave me her thanks for the small gesture. Later that day, the client came back to the branch to return them.
She beamed at me, saying, “Thank you so much for lending me your slippers so I can walk properly. Because of that I had a chance to get a new pair.” I smiled back at her and felt good that she appreciated my simple act.
MAGIS and UBUNTU allow us to do good things for our clients here at UnionBank– through big things like accurately processing transactions to little things like giving away good ‘ol slippers.
