Heroes and Heroines #Spooktacular U
Every year, UnionBank hosts its Halloween event Spooktacular U. Halloween 2020 was a tad different given the restrictions living in the now normal. UnionBank’s HR group decided to bring Halloween home to employees with a weeklong spooky yet fun activities to give all the participants the best Halloween experience possible. The event highlights the employees’ display of the values Magis and Ubuntu, and challenged conventions as they design face masks, dress up their kids who pretended to be other-worldly creatures, and accepted the challenge of escaping virtual breakout rooms.
Heroes in Disguise!
As the darkness falls across the land, UnionBankers unleashed their powers and creativity by designing face masks at the comfort of their homes. Every participant’s competitiveness was seen in their crafts such as paper mache making, drawing, stitching, and recycling. Their excitement was so contagious and co-UnionBankers supported them by liking their entries at UnionBank’s private FB group.
Enchant!
Who wouldn’t love to see cute little heroes and heroines? UnionBankers magically turned their kids into heroes and heroines. Their lovely kids were so up for the challenge and they projected well in the photos and were in character. Choosing the winners was difficult for the judges for sure!
Escape!
Escape! The virtual breakout rooms sent chills down the spines of UnionBankers. More than a hundred employees joined this mind-boggling activity with themed rooms such as Harry Potter, Spy, and Jumanji. The four finalists deciphered the final breakout room codes but Team Diehard Data Scientists was the fastest. Indeed, a great showcase of Magis and Ubuntu!

Truly, nothing makes the work worth worthwhile more than seeing fellow UnionBankers have fun as they engage in these Spooktacular activities. Just as the masks were taken off, costumes were kept, virtual breakout rooms have been escaped and conquered, we would to wait for another 365 days to say, “I’ve been ready for this Halloween since last Halloween.”
Fit, Fun, and Festive Virtual Christmas Celebrations
This year is never short of challenges and surprises. That is why this December, UnionBank Employee Relations unit prepared a line up of festive games and raffle for UnionBankers to enjoy.
Merry Fitmas
Get up and get fit during the holidays! Virtual Zumba, Yoga, and Pound sessions are still on-going every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday night.
Yuletide Raffle
Got a favorite Christmas song bring you on a holiday high? Have you polished and displayed you Belen or Nativity Set by the Christmas Tree? Whatever preparations you might have might also win you a prize with the regular Yuletide Raffle throughout December.
The Attitude of Gratitude
2020 might have been a year of challenges, but we can always take a step back for that opportunity to start counting our blessings – big or small. Online Lunch and Learn Episode 12, “In everything, give thanks” is a heartwarming webinar about acknowledging and accepting our woes and sparking hope and positivity by being grateful.
Sounds of the Season
Hymns of joy, peace, hope, and love, filled the air as UnionBankers and City Savings Bankers showcased their singing talents in a virtual concert for a cause. Donations will benefit the Psalm of David Orchestra, Inc., Children’s Joy Foundation, Inc. and GBC Appeal for Help.
We might be ending a challenging year, but looking at it from a different perspective, we are about to start a new decade full of hope and more resilient. Truly, we uphold our values, break silos, and choose to collaborate, nothing can keep us from owning the future. UnionBankers are enthusiastic, engaged, and empowered – physically or virtually.
